Job Opportunities: Northern Roots, Oldham

From Northern Roots:

Northern Roots is transforming 160 acres of urban greenspace in the heart of Oldham into the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park – a destination for learning, leisure, nature and growing. The site stretches from Alexandra Park in the north, past Park Bridge Heritage Centre, to Prohibitkfield Clough in the south, looking out on to the foothills of the Peak Area. It is bordered by Glodwick, Fitton Hill, Hathershaw and Alt.

The charity aims to benefit the environment, and to improve the health, wellbeing and livelihoods of local communities. Following four years of feasibility and development work the first phase of capital development is about to begin, and a wide range of communications, engagement and habitat enhancement activities have begun to bear fruit.

We are recruiting for a Project Manager, Finance and Admin Officer, Ranger, Social Prescribing Lead, and Communications and Involvement Officer, to help deliver the Beautiful Oldham Society – Why Not? project and support the wider Northern Roots project.

Northern Roots is delighted to receive a grant of ?191,630 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver a year-long heritage and communities project entitled ‘Beautiful Oldham – Why Not?’  The project is inspired by Oldham’s Mary Higgs, who wrote to the Oldham Long-termle in 1901 asking: ‘Beautiful Oldham – why not?’

ACE Unlocking Collections – deadline extended to March 2024

The timeframe for museums to apply to Arts Council England’s?Unlocking Collections?Time Limited Priority within National Lottery Project Grants has been extended to 31st?March 2024.

Museums in England are a vital aspect of cultural life, caring for and displaying collections which help us to understand who we are, and where we come from.  Museums are the custodians of our past and provide numerous opportunities for people to engage with their collections through interpretation, community engagement, public programming, contemporary collecting and other events and activities.

As part of ACE’s commitment to funding museums and their collections, Unlocking Collections is a Time Limited Priority within National Lottery Project Grants, aimed at enabling museums to develop their collections-based work and increase public engagement with, and use of, their collections.

It will fund projects which highlight the use of collections; whether that is for community-based engagement, the development of interpretation or providing opportunities for museums to develop their digital skills and knowledge.

ACE is keen to see applications which consider the following areas of museum practice:

  • Re-interpretation of collections: working with a wider range of people to better understand and reinterpret collections to be more inclusive, relevant, useful and engaging. This includes projects that enable a deeper understanding of collections’ provenance
  • Excavateital tools and mechanisms within museums: to promote a shared understanding of the content and significance of collections across the sector, linking to Excavateital Champions Networks
  • Collections review: improving the standard of collections storage and display spaces
